Learning by Doing: Day 23 #SOL18

Today is day 23 of the month long writing challenge sponsored by Two Writing Teachers.

Learning by Doing

Yesterday I was invited to sit in on a training to learn about a new 70″ touchscreen computer device that was recently purchased for the computer lab area in our building.  It’s a fancy tool with loads of capabilities and possibilities.  I sat listening to the trainer walk us through all the buttons and tabs and features.  Each time a new tools was introduced I furiously wrote down the location of the buttons – menu: top right, settings – bottom left, so that when I went to use the screen I could remember where things were. I sat through the 45 minute training listening but not really learning.

What I really wanted to do was get up off my seat and play with the buttons.  I wanted to take the time to press the keys and explore the icons. I just wanted to dive in and have at it!  I am not afraid of technology so whenever I get a new device I want to spend time playing with it.  That’s what I wanted to do yesterday.  The verbal directions were fine, but I am just itching to get back into the lab to play and learn! And that is exactly why I am heading to school early today!  Nothing like a little before school play time before everyone arrives!
