I am once again participating in the Slice of Life Story Challenge for the month of March. This is the fourth year I have joined the community of writers over at Two Writing Teachers in taking up this challenge of writing for 31 consecutive days. I know it will be hard work but the growth will be immeasurable. Follow along!
Art for a Purpose
For the last five years I have participated in an art contest to benefit a local nonprofit. For a small fee participants receive a blank artist palette to transform into a work of art. I never join to win, rather I participate to support this worthwhile nonprofit and to force myself to craft, paint, and let my creative side emerge.
This year I wanted to focus on birds, as I see so many on the tree in our yard. I had the idea to use the hole in the palette as a woodpeckers hole.
I started by researching birds:
Attempted a one-line drawing technique for the winged creatures:
Create a board on Pinterest to capture ideas for cut paper techniques:
Googled quotes about birds:
Enjoyed my studio in the sunshine:
Completed my art piece:
I am quite proud of the palette I created with the little nuthatch, bluebird and woodpecker perched in the tree. This year I have offered to sell my palette with proceeds going to the nonprofit. But secretly, I already have a spot chosen to hang my masterpiece.
