Role Reversal

A grandmother’s role is to dote on and comfort her grandchildren, yet on a recent visit to my little ones the roles were swapped.

Bebe, put your head down so I can cover you up.

Without any hesitation I placed my head down on the couch pillow while G. gently placed the soft blankets over my back. I felt warm and loved by his gentle touch as he tucked me in. He walked away and returned with his guitar in hand. Lifting his instrument to play, he gazed into my eyes and began his sweet and gentle lullaby…

You are my sunshine

my only sunshine

you make me happy

when skies are gray

You’ll never know dear

how much I love you

please don’t take my sunshine away.

Tears dripping down my face I reached up for a much needed hug. This is the kind of role reversal I’d like to repeat. Please don’t take this sunshine away.
