Beware #SOL18 Day 3

Today is day 3 of the month long writing challenge sponsored by Two Writing Teachers.

Beware!

Beautiful blue

Glimmering in the sand

Waiting for a victim

Beware!

Balloon like bubble

Filled with gas

Poison or not?

Beware!

Purple jelly

Underneath

Long tail waiting

Beware!

Irresistible to touch

Harmless?

No!

Beware!

Yesterday I posted a slice about my seeing and learning about a Portuguese Man of War while vacationing on Florida.  I kept thinking how pretty this dangerous creature of the sea was, and suddenly I was writing this poem in my head.

Writing two slices on one topic reminded me of the importance of teaching our students to use one experience to fuel writing across multiple genre.

  1. Wow – the photo is incredible. Love your reflection on sticking with a topic and trying a different genre. Really helps kids understand genre and structure.

  2. I like the list of thoughts in poetic form! And yes, what a great lesson to revisit our writing to build on old ideas and new forms to express them. Oooh, now I’m going to look through some old posts of mine to see if any resonate for this challenge–thanks!

  3. This is a great example of how one subject can lead to different genres of writing. Well done! I still think they are beautiful – deadly or not!
